Long division problems can be tricky when there is a zero in the quotient. Unfortunately, it’s tough to know if there are zeros in the quotient until you’re done. This video should help with tonight’s homework.

In class today we worked on solving long-division problems and checking our answers. Students who need a review should watch these two videos:

I just posted a video to help with 3 x 3 multiplication. You can view it by clicking here.
Please remember what I said in class about tonight’s homework: if you are having trouble with 3 x 3 multiplication, I’d like you to watch the video and try your best. Spend no more than 20 minutes on this work. If you are still having trouble, I’ll help you during math time tomorrow.

We’ve been using the Khan Academy a bit for the first few weeks of school and while it’s been going pretty well so far, I’d like to try something a little different tonight – sort of our own version of it.
Instead of watching a video made by Sal Khan, I’d like you to watch one that I made. And instead of doing the exercises on the Khan academy site, we’ll be using questions I made and posted onto Discovery Education.
First watch the video: UPDATE: The link I posted before does not seem to be working, so try this one: http://verbeck.net/video/estimating-productsv-2.wmv
Here’s the old one, just in case it starts working. (http://www.schooltube.com/video/8536d576b46b4dfd88c2),
Second click here to login to the Discovery Education site and take the assigned quiz.
Your login is the same as it is for Google Docs and the Khan Academy:
firstname.lastname(at)verbeck.net (stu.dent(at)verbeck.net)
Your password is your last name and 2011 (dent2011)
Important note: in the sample addresses above I put (at) instead of the @ sign. When you type it, however, you need to use the @ sign. If you’re interested in why I did this, just ask.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
